Grad-Dual Feeder

The Grad-Dual Feeder is an anti-tip, anti-choke floor feeder designed to slow the consumption of hard feed and protect your horse from the dangers of choke. Developed by Anna Gardner after her sister's horse suffered choke twice in a single week, it was created out of necessity — because nothing suitable existed on the market. With 12 individual feeding basins, the Grad-Dual Feeder encourages horses to use their tongue and muzzle to access feed, slowing intake, increasing saliva production and supporting healthy digestion. Suitable for use indoors or outdoors, it's the safe, effective solution for horses that bolt their feed.

the Grad-Dual feeder

"My sister's horse suffered choke twice in a single week — both times requiring veterinary attention. It was a frightening experience for everyone involved.

I immediately went looking for a slow feeder to prevent him from gulping his feed, and was astonished to find that nothing suitable existed on the market. The only options were dog bowls.

So I designed the Grad-Dual Feeder myself.

The individual feeding basins prevent horses from taking large mouthfuls, encouraging them to use their tongue and muzzle to access their feed. This slows intake, increases saliva production and makes mealtimes safer — particularly for horses that bolt their hard feed."

Proven results from university trials

Independent research conducted by Writtle University College compared consumption times in fifteen horses fed from a standard bucket against the Grad-Dual Feeder over a four-week trial period.

The results were significant. Horses using the Grad-Dual Feeder took an average of nearly eleven minutes longer to consume their feed compared to a standard bucket — almost doubling feeding time. Crucially, this effect was sustained over the full four-week period, demonstrating that horses do not simply learn to eat faster with continued use.

The study concluded that the Grad-Dual Feeder is an effective tool for slowing consumption rate and increasing chew time — making it particularly beneficial for horses that bolt their feed or those on a restricted ration who benefit from an extended feeding time.

Suitable For All Feed Types

The Grad-Dual Feeder works with every type of concentrate feed — dry nuts, cubes, chaff, soaked feed, sugar beet and mash. The 12 individual feeding basins are deep enough to hold wet and sloppy feeds without spillage, making it just as effective for horses on a soaked or mash-based diet as it is for those on dry hard feed.
